Slope monitoring technician - Petra Diamonds

 Reference Nr: CUL460  ROLE PURPOSE:  

Reporting to the Superintendent Survey, this role is responsible to ensure the operational effectiveness of the slope stability monitoring system and provide ground movement analytical and status reports to meet geotechnical measurement specifications.  RESPONSIBILITIES:  Maintain data availability by maintaining field hardware and software related to the pit stability monitoring system  Maintain connectivity to field equipment by troubleshooting LAN issues and resolving them in a timely manner  Install, configure and maintain field systems related to the pit stability monitoring system by diagnostics and timely fault resolution  Develop and implement movement alarm notification and response process  Reporting, Monitoring & Evaluation, Audit: Ensure that all Slope stability / technical services reporting is aligned with standards, guidelines and schedules  Measurement and analysis of ground movement or structural deformation  Issue routine system health and status reports timely  Issue routine movement analysis reports timely as required by the Geotechnical Engineering Superintendent  Develop and implement modifications to optimize and improve the system and support requirements  Provide technical support to the Survey and Geotechnical Engineering sections as required  Engagement and Communication: Establish and maintain good working relationships and an effective / sound communication system with the technical services systems Function  Provide subject matter expertise and skills in area of responsibility; advising on solutions to enhance or ensure the effectiveness of the department/section  Takes cognisance of and adhere to Company policies, procedures and relevant legislation. Manage and report on non-compliance issues  Maintain and manage healthy relationships within own team and across teams  Responsible to provide support to team within area of responsibility  Responsible to share knowledge and skills with co-workers  Responsible to use communication and feedback channels effectively  Responsible for managing own work performance and completing tasks as per set timelines and standards  MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  N6 Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Light Current or Instrumentation and Process Control, OR   S4 National Diploma in Instrumentation and Process Control  2 years’ relevant experience in C&I in a mining environment  Sound knowledge of field instrumentation and control systems – please indicate on CV  Knowledge of SCADA/WinCC – please indicate on CV  Knowledge of ground movement monitoring systems – please indicate on CV  ADVANTAGEOUS:  Valid Drivers’ Licence  TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:  Troubleshoot and resolve LAN/WAN errors  Develop relevant measurement reports  Perform diagnostics on control and instrumentation systems  Learn to use new software applications quickly  Measure and report on C&I system health  Code basic scripts to automate tasks
